1959 Ford Custom 300 Fordor Sedan

"Once you compare Ford's Custom 300 models for 1959 with other cars, we believe you'll agree: none offers so much value for so little money as the Ford Custom 300's. Now, for the first time, these Custom 300's are built on exactly the same wheelbase as the most expensive Fairlane 500 models! They're six inches longer than last year, and they're beautifully proportioned in every way. Compare and you'll agree that these Custom 300's are the true value leaders of the entire automotive field!"

After the successful 1957 and 1958 Fords, the usual three-year lifecycle of the lineup found its climax most unusual in a car that didn't bear any resemblance to its predecessors. Not only did the exterior styling of the 1959 Ford look totally new, but under the hood, too, fundamental improvements and much improved build quality made it the best Ford to date.

Ford immodestly talked about "The World's Most Beautifully Proportioned Cars", and the Gold Medal for exceptional styling in the Brussels World Fair backed up their claim. The boxy styling might not look beautiful for today's eyes, but in the 50s, Ford's design direction was widely perceived as ultra-modern. And compared to it's arch-rival, the 1959 Chevrolet, the Ford looked commendably restrained.
